Dear____________,
I am a police officer who lost my mother on April 19, 1993, at Waco, Texas. During the 1960s, my mother, Mary Jean Borst, was employed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Her belief in law enforcement and government was just as strong as her belief in religion. In 1987, she joined the Branch Dravidian Church. My mother was one of the adults who tragically died at Mount Carmel. My mother died from a bullet that entered her back and penetrated her heart and left lung. Her body was found in the kitchen, which is consistent with the location that evidence proves federal agents directed their gunfire. Although I believe some Branch Davidians committed suicide, my mothers gunshot wound was not consistent with a suicide wound. Those who possibly committed suicide had close range gun shots to the head.
There are many different issues that surround the Waco investigations. However, the one I have chosen to focus on is that contrary to previous findings from Independent Counsel John Danforths investigation, there was gunfire by federal agents. Former Senator Danforth stated that federal agents never fired any shots. In 1999, the Citizens Organization for Public Safety (C.O.P.S.) conducted an investigation, called the FLIR (Forward Looking Infra Red) Project. This re-enactment of the events at Waco revealed new evidence and verified that flashes seen before and during the fire were, in fact, gunfire from federal agents.
In February of 2002, C.O.P.S. submitted a report to former Senator Danforth, Attorney General John Ashcroft, and the United States Congress in rebuttal to the findings and statement by the Independent Counsel on the matter of government responsibility at Waco. On April 19, 2002, a member of the House Committee on Government Reform, left a message on the C.O.P.S. directors answering machine. The message stated the report was good, but Congress had decided they did not want to spend more time and money investigating Waco.
As a law enforcement official, I am aware that there is no statute of limitation for homicides. It is inconceivable to me how former Senator Danforth could dismiss new evidence involving 80 deaths, including 24 children. Title 28, Part II, chapter 40, section 594 and subsection 4 states: an independent counsels investigative and prosecutorial functions and powers shall include reviewing all documentary evidence available from any source.
I support you and applaud you for your admirable accomplishments, and now I am asking for your help. I am respectfully urging you to request the Government Oversight Committee to review this new evidence and for Congress to re-open the investigation as to what really happened at Waco. This request is not only imperative for the sake of the victims, but also to restore the public trust in the hearts of millions of Americans.
Please take the time to read this outstanding report that documents this evidence. Thank you in advance for your attention to this matter. I look forward to hearing from you.
Respectfully,
